2050, New York. In the aftermath of a gruelling spiritual cleansing quest, Ismael, a Pakistani-American student, enters into an alliance with spiritual beings who send him on a perilous journey of self-discovery. A non-believer, Ismael must return to Pakistan, now in the grip of a brutal fundamentalist government, and gain the trust of his estranged father, a prominent extremist in the Caliphate. To accomplish this, he must pose as a true believer. Will he survive long enough to infiltrate his father's inner sanctum and complete his mission? Hell! No Saints in Paradise is both biting satire and allegory that takes urban fantasy to dizzying heights.

Introduction:

The first thing which attracts me towards this book is the alluring book cover. The contrasting use of black and white colors with two human figures on the bicycle made me read this book. As soon as I saw the availability of review copy of this book, I requested and luckily I got this amazing book. So let’s move to know more about this book.

Plot summary:

The year is 2050 and Ismael, An American, atheist protagonist of this book meets a psychologist Petra in the Grasshopper Bar. He tells her that he is doing a thesis on the truth of hell and paradise. Petra gives him the advice to go to a yoga center, where Ayahuasca drug is given for the inner-cleansing. After taking Ayahuasca he meets a strange old man Chacha Khidr on a bicycle, who told him that an important task is assigned to him.

Still trying to believe what he saw, he went home and finds a potion and a letter which instruct him to take a flight off to Pakistan. Ismael has left this land many years ago. His father Hajji Ibrahim was a strict follower of Islam and Ismael has been brought up with the lure of getting a paradise after death. However, Ismael didn’t find all these impressive and certain things happen at that time which makes him leave that country forever.

So Ismael made his journey to Pakistan, which is now under the caliphate of Al-Bakistan under the rule of Khalifa. The spiritual cleansing is happening and many regions are forcefully going under the Al-Bakistan. Those who tried to protest are executed.

Reaching to this different land, he meets people who are ready to die at any moment. There sole motto in life is to gain paradise. Bomb blast, executing people in the name of religion is normal. Clean water, electricity and medical treatment are totally scarce. The people are the blind follower of Khalifa.

There is something sinister going to happen and Ismael is given a task to stop this. To reach the destiny, Ismael has to meet his devout Islam follower father and have to behave a true believer in front of him. With Chacha Khidr, Ismael meets Pir Pul Siraat, Tarzan, Laila and many more characters in the journey. Some create problems but some help him.

Will Ismael able to stop this sinister oncoming? Will he get answers to his quest for Hell and Paradise? Who are the people helping Ismael? Read this super riveting book to know the answers.

Writing style:

The language of this book is very good; the author has a unique writing style with a mix of satire. The whole book is written from the first person’s POV. The narration is simply amazing and there is not a single dull moment in the book.

My perception:

I have never read any dystopian novel before thus the concept of this book was totally new to me. This book starts on a very interesting note which makes you flip the pages. The writing is very strong and you will never felt that it is written by a debut author. The book has some practical satire which is wisely put by the author. The author has taken a novel concept and the way he weaved it throughout the story is totally amazing. I need to admire the imagination of the author and the way he had created the whole concept of paradise and hell. Overall, this book is a flawless and enjoyable read which you shouldn’t miss!

You must have read various stories revolving around the Kashmir issue. This book also depicts the same essence but with a different twist. There is no doubt that leaving our home in few hours is the most painful experience in the world. This becomes more septic when one has to suffer without committing any mistake. The title of this book is catchy and gives a ray of hope. I would like to thank the #fingerprintpublishing for giving me a chance to read this beautiful book. 💜

Love is a feeling which cannot be expressed in the words. From many years, poets and writers are penning about this. Over the time, the definition of love changed. If we see the present situation then there are very few people who love each other unconditionally.  Living in the modern era when the other things take importance, do we have time to explore and understand love? The author of this book tried to give us some influential love sutra through the various stories. Thank you so much dear author for giving me a chance to read and review your debut work. 😊

First of all, I would like to thank the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The first thing which attracts the readers is the enchanting book cover, adorned with magenta colour and the palm of Buddha. This book cover can attract even a non-reader. After reading the blurb and genre, I was quite skeptical about this book but to my surprise, it turned out to be one of best non-fiction books of this year. .
