Before beginning with the plot and review of the book ‘So Near The Horizon’, I would like to thank the author, Jessica Koch, for giving me an opportunity to read it. The title and the cover of the book make it clear that it is a love story, but I must say, it is a love story like no other. Here’s what the book has in store for its viewers.
The book begins with Jessica, a teenager, and her friend, Vanessa, going to a fair-like event, where a group of three boys interact with them. The boys, two of them who look like they have just stepped out of a magazine’s cover, try to strike a chord with the girls. As much as Vanessa is interested in talking to them, Jessica hates being interrupted on one of her rare outings with her friends. As the two girls are about to leave for home, one of the boys, Danijel or ‘Danny’ as his friends call him, persuades Jessica to share her telephone number with him. In return, he hands him her card and promises to call her.
Jessica, smitten by Danny’s mesmerising green eyes, eagerly waits for his call, but to vain. A few days later, she comes in touch with Danny and develops a friendship with him. As the two go out on a few dates, Jessica falls for Danny head over heels. However, Danny is reluctant to make her a part of his life because of a dark secret that he has hidden from her.
As Jessica gets close to Danny, she finds out that he stays with Christina, his dearest friend. Utterly jealous of her at first, Jessica gradually learns that Christina, also known as ‘Tina’, closely resembles Danny and the two connect with each other in a way words cannot define. Christina, too, accepts Jessica and clears the air around her misconception of she being Danny’s girlfriend.
The three teens have a lot of fun and adventures together, until fate plays a cruel game. Jessica must decide if she still wants to be in a relationship with Danny after learning his dark secrets or lead an enjoyable life like any other teenager.
What call does Jessica take? How does that change her life and future? You must read the book to find out.
The writing style maintained by the writer is simple and informative. Nowhere, for once, the book will bore its viewers or distract their attention. The author has made a commendable effort in flawlessly explaining and portraying the various emotions that the characters go through.
‘So Near The Horizon’ is by far one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. Additionally, the fact that it is the author’s true story adds more emotion and fascination to it. The book is beautiful in its own way; the characters, emotions and the events that they go through just serve as the cherry on the cake. I could feel the emotions that Jessica, Danny and Christina go through during the various phases of their lives. I could connect with their laughter and tears at each point in the book. The narration is beautiful and the story is fascinating in its own way. It teaches one to love unconditionally, to accept their partners the way they are and let go of things when they are necessary.
This is a must read for everyone who has ever fallen in love.
